You have brilliantly captured the pleasure to be found in brief, incidental encounters with others which help remind us that there ARE other souls on the planet who are kind and find us worthy of a pause to chat...methinks you may be a bit of an introvert who wears her self-reflection well. : >)
Intimacy can occur in a moment, and usually does in fact. Even in those long cultivated relationships, there are moments that are seismic shifts. Like you, I crave the absolute and set an unreasonably high bar on meaningful connection, so thanks for the reminder that connection can be a tangent, and doesn't have to be an ultramarathon.
Aaaah! This is beautiful and makes me think of the 10-month adventure Robert and I took at the beginning of our relationship when we converted a 32' school bus into a home on wheels and explored through 16 states and British Columbia. One of the biggest takeaways for me was the impact of unexpected and unsolicited acts of kindness from strangers.
I'm still Facebook friends with Sue, who, along with her husband Joe, wound up parked next to us at Sea Rim State Park in Texas, just over the border of Louisiana. Their massive RV with all the slide-outs (talk about a HOME on wheels) had all the extras we didn't, which, in this case, included highly-coveted cans of Diet Coke and also an atlas that showed where ALL the Walmarts were in ALL the states, which meant free overnight parking, just in case our plans didn't quite work out the way we thought and we needed an easy place to crash. ( This was 2001, pre-smart phones and Google Maps and access to the internet outside of public libraries!) They gave us Diet Coke and ICE and let us borrow their atlas so we could take a highlighter to our own atlas and and mark all the Walmarts in all the states and on our anticipated routes. It gave me such momentary pleasure and peace about the future. And that was just one example! I'm so glad you found your Magnus, or, better yet, that he found you. :) xo

Loved this!
Beautiful piece! This makes me think of all of the small kindnesses I’ve experienced from strangers and they always stick with me too.
