I continue to marvel at your prodigious capacity to recognize the good, creative, entertaining, fun character-building rivulets which flow under the ground of the more apparent “naughtiness” the less gifted of us see. You are a blessing to your children as well as to the rest of us with more limited sight; you provide glasses which allow us to see better even if not perfectly or comprehensively, …and it’s no secret at all!
Questions prompted in my head and heart as I mine the gold of your offering:
Who or what am I seeking to protect with any secret I hold?
Can love ever be manifest in a secret? What about power?
What are the lines of demarcation between secrets, confidentiality, and discretion?
Is there a time, perhaps at the conclusion of all history, when every secret is known and brought to light? Would that invoke freedom or fear? Can we trust mercy?
Is there a hierarchy of secrets?
As a bartender, and later a priest/bishop, I became the bearer of lots of secrets on behalf of another. And btw, as it turns out, the former heavily informed the latter regarding pastoral sensibilities.
Once again, I am filled with gratitude for your writing. And if I may say, the revelation from the little guy in the back seat in your car was a spectacular gift.
